Setouchi: The Weight of Art and Life
Captured on film
Before my first trip to the Setouchi Triennale, I spent a lot of time reading about "Regional Revitalization." The idea sounds perfect: creating a business model that brings young people back to these aging islands.
But as I walked through the exhibitions and shared meals on the islands, a question kept lingering: Is this truly what the land needs?
I experienced the art and the food as a visitor, yet I couldn't stop wondering about the reality beneath the surface. Ultimately, the answer doesn't belong to me or the tourists. It belongs to the people who call these islands and Takamatsu their home. These images are my silent questions to the landscapes I encountered.
